The person for whom I would like to express my extreme gratitude is you, John. During the most challenging and painful years of my life, your loving kindness and legal assistance helped me to keep standing and cope with my ongoing struggle. Your support was more invaluable to me than you can know and I will continue to appreciate it for the rest of my life. Please let me know if there is any way I can bring kindness and light into your life the way you did for me. Wishing you a beautiful holiday and a healthy year in 2012. Love and hugs, Joan

I want to thank my son Charles Long for loving me unconditionally. I have never been perfect and you loved me anyway. I am so thankful that you are still alive after having a aneurism, brain surgery and heart issues Jan 2010. You are my miracle man and God is good. I love you more than words can express. Thank you for bringing Desi and Emily into my life, I love them so much.

I'd like to Thank my wonderful children for always being there for me, and also to my late fiancee Tony Cataldi, who taught me how to love again after my world fell apart. He showed me how to love again and to open my heart again to love and the wonders that life can bring you even in the smallest of things. God took him from my life in May 2009 but his memories sustain me and live on in my heart still. Thank You...

Dear Dad...I am tearing up as I think about writing this note...can a simple thank you be enough? For many years we had a love/dislike relationship which is not uncommon between parent and child, especially parents as strong willed as you and Mum...West Indian parents I often tell people....parents who believe that children should be seen and not heard, that believe children must do whatever their parents tell them to - without question, and parents who believe that children should be "phsically punshised" whnevever they "get out of line". It's hard to explain to my "American" friends that this was your way of showing love to us. In your case it was also because you were physically and emotionally punished as a child and did not know any better. It was also out of fear, the fear that I would not grow to be the well-rounded, responsible adult that all parents wish their children to become. It wasn't until I gave birth to my own two sons that I understood your style of parenting, and could come to appreciate and be thankful for all the sacrifices you made for Keith and I.
It was interesting to read some of the condolence cards when you passed last June - how many people reflected that I should be thankful that I had a loving father that cared for me as you did, and that many women do not have that in their lives and as a result do not have loving male relationships now when they are adults. It's funny the things that we take for granted without even realising it.

I am glad I have this opportunity to say "THANK YOU!!" once again for helping me become the woman I am today - a strong loving successful businesswoman, blessed with an infinite number of friends, family and extended family members upon whom I can depend, and a wonderful husband and business partner for these past 40 years. One of my most treasured mementos is the thank you card you gave to me about 4 years ago, acknowleding all that I do for will get a chuckle to know that he is still a pain in the you know where...and that I and Angel are still doing for him....not out of any sense of obligation but because this is what you and mum taught us - to take care of oneanother, and out of the simple gratitude of being able to take care of our family members who need it. It is only 8 months since you passed...and I still miss you as if you had left us last month. I want to thank you once again for all that you did for us, and for being such a wonderful father to me, and to Keith...we will always love you!
